Segarra is a comarca of inside of the lands of Lleida, located in the central highlands of Catalonia. It is a gentle and quiet land.

The region of Segarra is located in center of Catalonia, in the catalan central plateau. Is a territory that has perfectly conserved its landscape and its traditional life. Its border situation between Christians and Muslims has left an important legacy of castles and walled towns.

 

Environmental tourist resources:

The region of Segarra has a very characteristic landscape: extensive fields of culture similar to the ones of inner territories of the Iberian Peninsula. With the pass of the stations, these fields offer a very peculiar variety of colors. At the moment the most outstanding cultures are wheat, barley, oats, forages...

 

Cultural resources:

Route of the Castles: Segarra is the region with more castles and walled towns of Catalonia, castles that are integrated perfectly in the landscape and form an authentic medieval landscape. These constructions were used to control the muslims and later they were used as houses during the feudal time. The most outstanding castles are the one of Florejacs, Sitges, Vicfred, Pallargues, Aranyó, Montcortés, Ratera etc. This route can be done safely by car or on a tour. In the tourist office of Cervera we can find information and maps of the route.

San Ramón: is known by his monastery and its baroque church and also by its sanctuary that was declared Artistic Historical Monument of National in 1980.

Cervera: the capital of the region is a city with a long history (Muslim, ibers and Roman). It had his maximum splendor at the beginning of century XVIII, when among others privileges, had the honor to host the unique university of Catalonia. The old town maintains its walls and their attractiveness: small alleys and places with porticadas houses, the church of Santa Maria built during the centuries XIV-XV, the university, the town square, etc.

Other visits: Among others things we can visit the old Roman city of Iesso (Guissona), visit the itinerary of the military Civil War in Segarra, Romanic and Barroc of Segarra…

 

Traditional Festivals:

Witches' sabbath of Cervera: the last weekend of August the village live one of the most intense party of the year. Throughout the festival the town is filled with visitors interested in this event recalls the tradition of witchcraft in the village. During the three days of the festival is held all sorts of events all related to the fire, music, dance etc. The correfoc, the Escorreguda, Dance of the Cock, the parades and the concerts are the most interesting events.

The Passion, Cervera: it is a religious feast dating from the fifteenth century and now attracts hundreds of spectators. It is one of the representations of life and death of Jesus highlights of Catalonia with more than 300 actors. It takes place during Holy Week.

Sant Patro day's: San Ramon celebrates its most important holiday on the last day of August in the Convent Mercedario. Initially it was a party only religious but over time has evolved into a popular celebration. The main event is the celebration of Three Tombs: tractors and horses of the inhabitants of the village are three turns to the Convent. While there is also a car with a representation of a votive offering of San Ramon. There is also a food fair and craft products.

The Lady of the Flowers of Florejacs: In early April, the historic center of Florejacs is decorated with flowers and grass-roots activities for the whole family. Music, theater, seats, etc.


Active tourism

Segarra propose different itineraries around the valleys and its extensive plains. These can be done byo foot, horseriding or mountain biking and are suitable for all ages.

  • Walking routes: Route of Llobregós Valley, Route of the Romans, Cervera cultural route, Route of Cercavins.
  • Mountain bike routes: Monastery Route,  grain fields and castles of Segarra Route, Route of the towers. 

We can also perform a stage of the GR 171 across the region.

The county also gives us the possibility to find different types of mushrooms in autumn.

Those families with children can enjoy and discover the animals of the school farm, situated in the heart of Seguers.

 

Near La Segarra...

Solsona: Capital of region of the nSolsonès, its famous for his old town, that maintains the old walled structure and conserves three of its old vestibules, also outstand different important points to visit like the old ice well, the city council of century XVI or the cathedral of gothic style.

Carnival of Solsona: this multitudinal popular celebration is celebrated annually every March or April. Its one of the most emblematic carnivals of Catalonia, with an important history and a hung donkey as the main character. Dances of bigheaded, giants and different characters, contests, shows etc. are celebrated during the the whole week.

Cardona Castle: Situated at the end of a hill with superb views over the city and the lands bathed by the river Cardener, this castle built in the ninth century is one of the medieval fortresses of Romanesque and Gothic most important in Catalonia.

Salt mines of Cardona: In mines, visitors will descend up to 86 metres below ground, where you will discover the natural heritage, history and the way of working of these salt mines, one of the most outstanding in Europe until the end of the 1990s.
