The Berguedà region where the first mountains of the Pyrenees are on the horizon. The Cadi, Pedraforca, Berga... come to a magical land of strong traditions.

This region is marked by the beautiful mountains of the north, where we can find for example the Natural Park of Cadi Moixeró (with Pedraforca massif), Rasos de Peguera, Serra d'Ensija, etc. In contrast, the southern region is milder and where the Llobregat river borns and where we can find a large number of industrial estates. The Berguedà is an ideal place to enjoy nature, culture, their festivals and traditions, mushrooms, mountain and tranquillity ...

Environmental tourism resources:

Natural Park of Cadi-Moixeró: This is one of the parks biggest in the country with more than 40.000 hectares, comprised of different pre-Pyrenees mountains and bordered by the counties of Cerdanya, Alt Urgell Berguedà. 800 meters is located between the gullies into the 2.650 meters the highest peak (the Vulture). These large drops make the vegetation is very changeable, from alpine species to Mediterranean vegetation.
This natural area offers areas of great interest and a large number of trails, family recreation and activities. It was declared a Natural Park in 1983.

Natural Area of Pedraforca: integrated into the natural park of the Cadi-Moixeró, this massif is characterized by the beauty and uniqueness of her figure. It is a symbol of Catalan mountaineering with Gresolet Valley is an area ideal for hiking and enjoying the magnificent natural surroundings. You can access the village des balances and Góssol. The viewpoint of Gresolet (located at the foot of Pedraforca and accessible by private car) offers stunning views over the valley.

Cultural Resources:

Artigas Gardens, La Pobla de Lillet: built in the early twentieth century by the great architect Antoni Gaudí and on behalf of the family Artigas, this space was restored in 1992 and is now a place where nature and architecture to form a great union where you can walk and spend a quiet evening on the river Llobregat. Throughout the tour we can find Gaudi's artistic touches like the "Puente de los Arcos" and sources of magnesium.

Mining Museum Cercs: museum located in Sant Corneli, a former mining colony that allows us to relive and learn about life in the industrial age. One can visit the galleries of the mine through the train carrying miners to their places of work. While this museum is the starting point for a journey through the different points leading miners of this region.

Santuary of Queralt: near the town of Berga we can find a very special place where we can enjoy spectacular views of the region and spend the day in a privileged environment. At an altitude of 1200 meters find the Santuario de Queralt with the image of St. Mary of the fourteenth century as a highlight. You can reach on foot from Berga (about an hour) or drive to the parking Queralt. From here you can take the funicular or walk up finish. You can make different excursions such as the Camí dels Bons Homes or the course of the route-Núria Queralt.


Traditional Festivals:

Patum Berga: each year during the week of Corpus Christi is celebrated in the town of Berga one of the most important traditional festivals in Catalonia. This is a historic celebration that comes from the old medieval theater performances, and where the whole town goes out to participate and enjoy the different representations that are carried out. Figures mystical, fire, fireworks and dancing are the stars during the 5 days of the festival. Thanks to its attractive and party popularity is considered the national interest and declared a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

Competition of the sheepdogs in Castellar de N'Hug: the last weekend of August the town of Castellar de N'Hug together the best shepherds and herding dogs on the international scene since 1962. It is a holiday for the whole family where you can enjoy the competition of the sport so unique and lively atmosphere that fills the streets.

Falgars Dance: traditional folk festival which is celebrated medieval character in the Marian monastery 1.288metros Falgars altitude located within the municipality of La Pobla de Lillet. Each year in early June to meet all the neighbors and visitors to celebrate a day marked by dances and music of the brass bands. The protagonists are the heirs, the heirs and the different couples all dressed appropriately for the occasion.

 

Active tourism

The Berguedà is a region with a wealth of natural resources gives us the possibility to practice all kinds of sport throughout the year.

Northwest of the mountain region are highlighted as the Natural Park of Cadi-Moixeró or Rasos de Peguera. These are excellent places to enjoy both hiking, climbing, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing or a day of snow in the family. There are walking routes and biking very interesting and suitable for the whole family. Name the route of the Cathars (GR107) and the path Cavalls Vent.

In the center of MTB Berguedà in Avià, find a host with information and services, and more than a hundred miles of signposted walks all freely available.

On the other hand we can also do all kinds of adventure sports like Quad outings and horse, kayak, canoe, paragliding, etc. In the automn is also possible to search for mushrooms.

 

Next to Berguedà - Pyrenees ...

Solsona: the capital of the Solsonès its famous for his old town, that maintains the old walled structure and conserves three of its old vestibules, also outstand different important points to visit like the old ice well, the city council of century XVI or the cathedral of gothic style.

Vall de Núria: Located at 2,000 meters high and  surrounded by high mountains, this valley is one of the most important and famous tourist destinations in Catalonia thanks to its superb landscape and to house the shrine of Núria, place of pilgrimage since the twelfth century . The rivers, springs, paths and mountains invite us to enjoy this peaceful space throughout the year. In winter you can ski, in summer there are plenty of activities for the whole family: horseback riding, mini golf, fun park, picnic area, etc. Access to the valley is made by the rack which has a distance of 12.5 km and a vertical drop of 1000 meters. We can take the train in the station of Ribes-Enllaç, Ribes-Vila and Queralbs all of them with free parking.

Ripoll: Capital of the Ripollès, has an important historical past, in the Romanesque and medieval Catalonia. We found a lot of places of cultural interest, such as the monastery of Santa María de Ripoll, Farga.

International sheepdog skill contest, Ribes de Freser: the first weekend of September, the town attracts the best international shepherds from France, Basque Country, Andorra, Catalonia and Castelló. The competition is distributed over the two days, where there are exhibitions with dogs and different animals.

Natural Park of the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone: a large protected area of a 15.000h, considered one of the best examples of volcanic landscape of the Iberian Peninsula and one of the most important in Europe. In this park we can find up to 40 volcanic cones in a very good state and more than 20 basaltic lava flows. The rich soil and climate in this area encourage growth of a unique vegetation, such Jordà Fageda.  There are 28 trails, most of them marked.

One of the most important routes of the park is visit la Fageda d’en Jordà, the volcano of Santa Margarita and Croscat volcano, the most important points of the Volcanic Area of the Garrotxa. This is a trail suitable for all ages and can be done quietly in 4 hours and 30 minutes. Starting point: Area Can Serra (Fageda Jordà) and Santa Margarida Area.

Jordà Fageda: it is one of 26 nature reserves of the Natural Park of Volcanic Zone of the Garrotxa. We have access from the area of Can Serra, where there is a point of information and a car park. This is a beech forest unique because it grows on the side of the volcano's lava flow of Croscat in a humid area, with a hilly terrain. A well-signposted route 1.5 km allows us across this place that inspired the writer Joan Maragall to write one of his works.

Olot: the capital of La Garrotxa, also called the city of volcanoes, is located in the Natural Park of the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone. The volcano Montsacopa with the church of San Francisco rounds out the villa, and offers wonderful views of the area. Olot offers a vibrant cultural heritage, highlighting the modernist landmarks such as Casa Solà-Morales, Lluis Domenech i Montaner, the house bidder, Casa Noguer, etc. On the other hand also emphasize the church of St.. Esteve with baroque or the square of the clearing.
