Baix Ebre is a fascinating and very unknown region... from the mountains to the Ebro Delta, enjoy a landscape of great beauty with the river Ebro as companion and guide.
 

Ebre River becomes the thread of the region that connects the mountain and the sea: from the Natural Park of Els Ports to the plains of the Delta with its beaches and the sea. Following this vital route of the river we can enjoy a variety of fauna and flora, as few places in Catalonia, from the beech forests and ravines dels Ports, through the forests of Bank of the river to reach the ponds and rice fields of the Delta . The river was a land of cultural exchanges, Tortosa can only find references to the coexistence of Saracens, Jews and Christians in monuments.

Natural Park of Delta de l’Ebre: The Ebro Delta is the largest wetland in Catalonia and is one of the most important aquatic habitat of the western Mediterranean. The landscape has a strong personality, unique in Catalonia, in the interior we have the broad and extensive rice fields, a landscape that changes with the seasons (winter earthy, water flooded in spring, green in summer), the coastline is one of the most attractive landscapes of the Mediterranean, a large basin bordered by reeds and rushes. In the periphery, large areas of saline soils with vegetation and the long, deserted sandy beaches with dunes. The Ebro Delta wetlands are of international significance for eight plants and 69 species of vertebrate fauna, with most birds.

Natural Park of Ports: Ports Els are the set of mountains that make contact between the Baix Ebre and Montsià east, Terra Alta (Tarragona province) and Matarraña (Teruel) in the northwest and south Maestrat Baix ( Castellón). The area is characterized by vegetation of pine forests (black pine and red pine), oak. The terrain offers a multitude of canyons, ridges and peaks, where we can find the largest colony of Hispanic goat of the peninsula, along with other species such as badgers, genets, or birds of prey, and apart also from a large population of otters and vultures .

Els Ports Natural Park: This beech is at the southern edge of its geographic and occupation are the southernmost in Europe. It is for this reason that the beech forests of the ports are very special and unique characteristics, we find the there surrounded by cliffs and steep slopes, where the typical beech forests are found on the flats. The gullies are located in the area of the Vallcanera and within the municipality of La Senia.

 

Cultural Resources:

Prehistoric paintings, El Perelló: Caves of the Goat Calobra and Feixet (El Perello). Set of prehistoric paintings declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 1998. They belong to the Upper Palaeolithic period (between 25,000 and 15,000 years), it is hunting and mythological scenes found in the ravine of the Dolls, at the foot of the Sierra del Boix. 

Castle of Tortosa Suda: Suda Tortosa also called, is one of the main landmarks Tortosa. Although the castle is of Roman origin were Muslims, who gave shape and volume to this fabulous building today with access to the castle we can see a Muslim cemetery. Later, the Suda was converted into a Royal Palace by the addition of new rooms and defensive elements. It still keeps three notable fires and four large windows characteristic of the best Catalan Gothic. The defense also maintains its arsenal.

Tortosa walls: the walls surrounding the city of Tortosa in the nineteenth century was the largest in Catalonia. It had five main doors and articulated around several forts. Currently Tortosa walk round the castle walls bordering the Suda and is a great place to see and understand the heart of the city.

Historic Centre of Tortosa: Tortosa is a city linked to river trade and cultural exchange. Saracens, Jews and Christians lived in the city and left a rich historical and artistic heritage which today can still enjoy. Although most buildings are no longer the time, the layout of narrow winding streets that connect small squares with the original wells at the time. A tour of the historic center can include the core Jew, one of the old de Catalunya.

Tortosa Episcopal Palace: Built in the early fourteenth century to house the headquarters of the Bishopric of Tortosa. The patio is a jewel of Catalan civil gothic architecture. The building is of masonry "isódoma" (all stones are alike), is organized around this central courtyard surrounded by rooms that preserve the medieval structure. Currently, the episcopal palace is installed Diocesan Historical Archive.


Traditional Festivals:

Day of l'Ostra Delta, l'Ampolla: a Sunday in May is the Day of the oyster, a contest which has become a tourist and gastronomic reference in the regions of the Ebro Visitors can enjoy a 2500 kg of oysters Delta shared between the audience in the fishing port of L'Ampolla, which can be accompanied by a glass of cava.

Renaissance Festival, Tortosa: (third weekend in July) the city itself is the big stage, which recreates the arrival of the sixteenth century, the period of maximum splendor of the city, exposing the banners in the streets, with vegueria flag in front of Tortosa. Tortosa citizens are the protagonists of the party, take to the streets in costume and participate in events and ceremonies actively flying the flag of the vegueria.

Feast of the Harvest, L'Ampolla: (19 September) celebration to commemorate and remember the traditional process of rice processing once harvested, until the time of bagging and below is a sampling of dishes with various types of rice dishes among those attending the party.

Traditional festivals rice Deltebre: The plant (2nd Sunday in June), weeding (2nd. Sunday of July) and the harvest (3rd. Sunday of September). These parties are organized to remember and be able to recover some of the old traditions, both those tasks related to the cultivation of rice, and other recreational activities that were made about him and that eventually are lost.

Routes along the river Ebro River:
